Searching for Truth

In today’s culture truth has become a relative term. Morals are bent and swayed to an individual’s own personal meaning. Students are no longer spurred to seek out truth but rather to believe lies and propaganda spewed from liberal and godless worldviews.

Christian culture is no-less any better off, with very few pastors encouraging their congregations to read God’s Word much less turn to the passages during a message.

How many professing Christians actually read God’s Word daily? How very sickly we are without eating to nourish our physical bodies, how much more sick is the church spiritually?

Do we seek to know and have a vast understanding of pure truth? Where is the passion for wisdom and understanding? Whoa to us, because there is no truth apart from God’s Word...and whoa to us if we do not seek it out for we are in danger of judgement.

Oh how our Christian culture is filled with professing Christians who gain their knowledge and are satisfied with whom others say that God is. Contemporary Christianity is sick with professing believers who are alright with believing who God is based upon the lyrics of modern Christian artists. God has been reduced in the minds of professing believers to a loving God who is not angry with wickedness and sin. God has been reduced in Christian culture and has lost sight of Who He truly reveals Himself to be in Scripture as a Just Judge, Who loves righteousness and can have no part of sin.

It is true that God is love but not apart or distinct from His other attributes.

I, too, am guilty. Guilty for not being passionate enough in searching Him out more. Guilty for not being a better student of Him. Guilty for believing skewed opinions with an incorrect understanding of God. Guilty for committing idolatry and being satisfied with whom others say He is rather than seeking the Truth out for myself in Scripture.

Proverbs 16:25 says that “There is a way that seems right to a man, But it’s end is the way of death.”
At the end of life it would be a terrifying moment for an individual to realize that he or she never knew the One True Living God; for an individual to suffer eternal damnation from the Holy God because he or she was not prudent enough to seek out the real Truth about God revealed to us in His Word.

Proverbs 25:2 says that “It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, But the glory of kings is to search it out.” God in His Infinite and Sovereignty, needs no counsel from anyone; however, it is necessary for kings to search out matters of truth to be established and lasting.

Lord, give us a passion to seek out Your truth of Who You are in scripture. Let us not be satisfied with less than Who You really are and “teach us to number our days, so that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” Psalm 90:12

Where will you be on that day? God says in Hebrews 9:27 that “it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.”

The great news is that we do not have to wait until we die to find out Who God is, He wants us to seek Him while we still have the chance to.

Repent, turn from your sin, put your faith and trust in Jesus Christ, and ask Him to help you seek Him out with your whole heart through His Word.

Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.” James 4:7-10
